Client’s Requirements: Strengthening Coastal Operations in Mozambique 


A respected maritime company in Mozambique, already familiar with Marcap's vessel management services, sought to enhance its coastal cargo operations. They acquired a 78-meter landing craft in Chile, recognizing its potential to improve transport efficiency between key Mozambican ports. They entrusted Marcap to handle vessel’s delivery along with the ongoing management upon arrival.

The voyage presented a unique set of complexities, demanding careful planning and precise execution. The initial leg of the journey involved navigating the intricate waterways from Puerto Montt, Chile, to Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world! What were the challenges? 


  • Crew Logistics: Arranging for an experienced crew to travel to South America required careful navigation of international visa requirements. 
  • Ushuaia Time Constraints: The port of Ushuaia presented a tight 24-hour window for completing essential tasks, including changing the vessel's flag and ownership, within strict environmental regulations.
  • Vessel Condition & Route Selection: The landing craft, while robust, required thorough inspection and proactive maintenance to ensure its reliability for the long voyage ahead. Strategic route selection also became crucial, considering weather patterns and logistical requirements.
  • Transatlantic Voyage: Crossing the South Atlantic Ocean posed navigational challenges due to potential adverse weather conditions and the need for carefully planned bunkering stops.

Recognizing the limited time in Ushuaia, Marcap coordinated closely with all relevant authorities to streamline the flag and ownership transfer, completing all necessary procedures within the 24-hour timeframe.


A stop in Rio Grande, Brazil, was strategically planned for essential maintenance and to load spare parts ordered from the UAE head office. This ensured the vessel was in optimal condition for the transatlantic crossing and had vital spare parts in case of emergency.


Furthermore, a pre-arranged stop in Durban, South Africa, allowed for replenishing supplies and fuel, ensuring the vessel's readiness for the final stretch of its journey.


Marcap’s experienced navigators constantly monitored weather conditions, adjusting the route as needed to avoid severe weather and ensure a safe and efficient voyage.


Effective communication was paramount. Marcap established clear and consistent communication channels between the crew, our operations team in Abu Dhabi, port agents in South America and Africa, and the client in Mozambique.
